I got this perfume because I damaged the atomizer of my bottle of Oud Al Layl and I didn’t want to spend another N14k restocking that perfume. I saw this on sale for N5,000 and Fragrantica said it was another Oud Al Layl smell alike so I hopped on it.
Terhaal opens citrusy with a fermented fruity sweetness, heavy medicinal smelling rose and old woods.
It’s giving sweet tetmosol bar soap.
About one hour in, it turns zesty as the orange peel accord kick in.
On my skin, the final drydown kicks in after about 3hrs where the perfume settles into a powdery musky citrusy less aggressive rose with slight creamy woody nuances.
If I smelt Terhaal on anyone, I’d immediately think they were wearing Oud Al Layl.
Maybe the cold weather is to blame but as I tested this before scripting this review, I started to like it unlike when I got it 7 months ago.
4 sprays on my skin projects steadily for like 3 hours but if I’m sitting close to a fan, the projection continues steadily into the 8th hour.
For those wondering why I added another Oud Al Layl DNA to my collection giving that I don’t like it, well I wanted to see if I’d come to love it like some people claim to do after months have passed….Plus it was just N5K and I really needed the retail therapy.
Let’s quickly look at Lattafa’s Lail Maleki which is yet another Oud Al Layl smell like.
I’ve had this in my collection for approximately 3 years now and the performance is slightly beneath what I get from Terhaal.
It definitely lasts over 12hrs on my skin but the projection doesn’t really go past the 3rd hour.
Two main difference between Lail Maleki and Terhaal are
One, Lail Maleki has something in it that smells quite nutty on my skin…like almonds and it has a very perceptiple creamy amber note after like 2hrs of wear.
And two, while Terhaal is quite linear on my skin, Lail Maleki veers into various directions by the time it hits the 9th hour on my skin.
Sometimes I get a lot of white florals and other times it’s giving soft powdery musk mixed with creamy woods.
Anyway, I’m finally of the opinion that this scent profile is best suited for really really cold weather.
It just doesn’t play well in the heat.
