This is the standard MTN S20 budget 4G Wi-Fi Router which currently retails for N20,000.
It comes with a useless powerbank which doesn’t power the router long enough when the grid is down.
Also the powerbank takes a pretty while to charge up.
If you have a fast charging or high capacity powerbank lying around, I advice you get a DC 5v To 9v/12v Converter USB Cable instead and power your router for longer hours.
This one cost me N6,000 via Jumia Nigeria but you can also get it on Aliexpress.
Warning: This cable works for only 9V or 12V routers. Check your router’s adapter to be sure of its rating.
Simply select the right voltage for your 4G Wifi Router by moving this button right here, in my case it’s set to 12V because the MTN Router requires 12V.
Plug it into the router and then connect it to the powerbank and wait for the router to come alive.
The LED will show you if the cable is delivering 9V or 12V to the router.
You can charge your powerbank while it’s powering the router but do have two things in mind.
One when power is restored and the powerbank starts to recharge, the router will automatically reboot.
Two, depending on the technology of the powerbank, its charging speed will slow down whilst it’s powering your router.
I tried this with a 10W and 18W powerbank and had no issues whatsover with both of them.
